August 2018 saw the club Host The Lashings International side for a T20 game including Wasim Jaffa, Yasir Arafat, Devon Malcolm and John Emburey.
This massive fund raising event secured around £10,000 for the rebuild venture thanks to 270 people from the local business community and club members! The Lashings World XI players faced their Wisbech hosts for a great afternoon of cricket with the legendary Henry Blowfeld commentating!
Lashings chose to bat first and managed to clock up 153 runs and with some fantastic catches from Wisbech it was all to play for. Wisbech captained by Gary Freear went into bat and it came down to the last over. The local boys were just beaten as at the close of play they made 148 runs! Josh Bowers was presented with Man of the Match.
The day included a dinner, junior cricket coaching from some of the World’s best alongside an auction. There is already talk of a re-match!
The whole Lashings team approached the day with such warmth and generosity and Dave Fitzgerald one of Lashings management team said “ it is genuinely one of my favourite games of the season and such a lovely club and community”.
The whole event was a huge success and none of it would have been possible without all the hard work of Jane Peggs, Gary Freear, Nat Ward, Kirsty Macleod and a huge team of volunteers. A massive thank you goes to them and everyone in the build up to Friday as well as the day itself.
The club is immensely proud of its members and all that was achieved on Friday. The day was one that will be remembered and talked about for a long time.
