ABOUT WISBECH TOWN CRICKET & HOCKEY CLUB

Wisbech Town Cricket & Hockey Club currently boasts just under 300 members across the two sections. At Senior level, the hockey club currently runs four mens, and four ladies teams, as well as Mixed and Veterans sides, while the cricket club runs four mens teams, and is working towards establishing its first ladies team.

Juniors are a priority for both sports, with introductory, development, and match programmes being an essential part of the club’s activities. Several junior members have moved through the respective Junior setups to play Senior league hockey and cricket. WTCHC can proudly say that it has regularly see county representation of both girls and boys, across both sports at different age groups.

WTCHC have formed a close working relationship with Thomas Clarkson Academy, and Peckover Primary School, and continues to seek to establish links with other local schools and groups. Volunteers have delivered outreach work through England Hockey’s “ Hockey Futures” programme to both schools, reaching children and young people from years four to eleven.

This has all been possible because the leads for PE in both schools, along with the children, have shown great enthusiasm, placing their trust in WTCHC. So far this project has led to inter-school tournaments and PE sessions being delivered using experienced volunteer hockey coaches. Wisbech Town Hockey Club is particularly pleased that Thomas Clarkson Academy now has field hockey as part of their school curriculum. Cricket have worked closely with Cambridgeshire Cricket Board to help introduce cricket to the wider community of Wisbech. Cricket is now being taught through the Chance to Shine programme in Clarkson Infant School, St Peters School, Orchards Primary and Peckover. The club now has a closer link with these schools and have already seen pupils migrate over in to the clubs ‘FUTURES’ Programme and All Stars and Dynamos Programmes.

The Club is currently working through a period of transition that will enable greater community integration. The goal of ‘rebuilding our future’ is the long term project culminating in a new pitch and pavilion.
