Hockey and Cricket Through The Years

Wisbech Town Cricket and Hockey Club has been in existence since 1962, following the amalgamation of Wisbech Town Cricket Club (formed in 1895) and Wisbech Hockey Club (formed in1939), when coming together at their current home at Harecroft Road, Wisbech.

In 2016 the Cricket section won the Cambridgeshire Outstanding Service to Cricket award and the wicket at Wisbech is now considered one of the finest in the East thanks to the considerable ongoing efforts of many voluntary and passionate club members.

Hockey was originally played on the grass cricket outfields, but with the sport moving to artificial turf as its preferred surface in the late eighties, the current full-size floodlit sports pitch, the first of its kind in the area, was built in 1995 to the north of the cricket ground. The land, along with the cricket ground was part of the original Peckover Estate but is now owned by The National Trust. The pitch not only benefits hockey players but is also used by the local schools and other sports clubs.
