DINNER AND AWARDS EVENING MARKS SEASONS END

Wisbech Town Hockey Club marked the end of the 2021/22 season with a dinner and presentation evening, held at Marshland Hall, Marshland St. James on Saturday.

Forward Jo Gomm was named Ladies 1st XI Player of the Year, after helping the team retain its place in East Hockey Division 1 North, and received the Club Player of the Year award from Chairwoman Natalie Ward, in recognition of Gomm’s efforts both on the field, but also her help off it, as both Ladies Club Captain, and Junior Development officer.

Ladies 2nd XI captain Harriet Bateman was voted Player of the Year by her team, whilst the Ladies 3rd team chose young forward Lily Cooper as their Player of the Year.

First team goalkeeper Lexi Klibanecz was named the Most Improved Junior Player from the Ladies section, after becoming an integral part of the 1st XI during the season, while Penny Scott was voted Most Improved Senior Player.

In the Men's section, centre back Jason Esser was named First Team Player of the Year, with Aiden Falkus selected as the Most Improved Senior Player by Head Coach Charlie Baxter, after seamlessly moving up to the club’s top team during the campaign, with the Men securing their place in Division 1 North for another year thanks to a 6-1 win away at Sudbury on the final day of the season.

Midfielder Matt Esser was chosen as the Men's 2nd XI Player of the Year, after helping the team achieve promotion this year, while Ross Gardner was named Third Team Player of the Year, and Mat Boyall 4th XI Player of the Year.

Young forward Oliver Overland was awarded the Most Improved Junior Player, following a strong season for the 3rd XI, while Olivia Jackson received the Graham Ward Outstanding Achievement Award, after breaking into the Ladies first team during the season.

Chairwoman Natalie Ward also confirmed she would be stepping down from the role at the upcoming AGM - on behalf of everyone at Wisbech Town HC, we’d like to thank Natalie for her tireless efforts during the six years she has held the position, helping the club navigate some major challenges during her time in office, as well as playing a key role in the club’s Crockey Project fundraising efforts.
