NEW SPONSORS PROVIDES BOOST TO LADIES SECTION

Wisbech Town Hockey Club’s Ladies section has received a significant boost ahead of the 2022/23 season, thanks to a new sponsorship agreement with My Castle Property Maintenance. The local business will sponsor the newly formed Ladies 4th team this season, and has also provided new equipment worth more than £2,500 to help the hockey club’s drive to get more women playing hockey.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to My Castle Property Maintenance for both their sponsorship, but also this generous donation.” Jo Gomm said, speaking on behalf of Wisbech Town HC. “As a club, we are extremely keen on getting more women and girls playing hockey this season. Having watched the England Women’s team win gold at the recent Commonwealth Games, as well as Team GB picking up another Olympic medal at the Tokyo games, it’s a great time to get involved in the sport.”

The hockey club has incorporated special coaching sessions during its Thursday night training to help new players, or those coming back to the sport, work on skills and learn more about the game, with the Ladies 4th team formed this season as a means of allowing new players to move into competitive league hockey in a low pressure environment, centred on development.

“It was important to us that we created a pathway for those new players joining us this season,” Gomm said. “That there was a team they could be a part of, and a way of progressing in the sport. As a club, we put a strong emphasis on community, and we believe this initiative will be a big part of that.”

The new equipment provided by My Castle Property Maintenance includes sticks, and other protective equipment, to allow new players to try the sport, whilst also ensuring the Ladies 4th team has all of the items it will need for its first year in East Hockey Women’s Division 5 North West.

“This donation is to support and encourage members of the local community wishing to take up the sport, or wanting to return to the sport after breaks, such as Covid.” Luke Jackson, owner of My Castle Property Maintenance said.

“It’s great to be in a position where, as a business, we can help fund such a hard working and supportive club with this equipment for generations to come. I have played the sport for over 20-years, and have always found Wisbech to be extremely welcoming and passionate in supporting their young superstars. I look forward to seeing the equipment in action.”

Ladies 4th team captain Ashleigh Lawrence, who herself returned to hockey after a number of years away, is keen to see the initiative flourish both this season, and beyond:

“I started again because I wanted a lifestyle change,” Lawrence said. “To become fitter, stronger, more active. I wanted to play a sport that meant I was part of a team, a community, and I hope we can give other new players the same opportunity.”
